Best Cheap Toaster Oven – Black & Decker TO1303SB

Best Cheap Toaster Oven

If you are like me when I was back in college, you’re used to eating takeouts and pizzas and whatnot, even when it’s really easy to cook a simple meal for one. After a while you realized you could get a cheap toaster oven and start making some real food, thinking at least if you were busy you could just fall back to heating up frozen pizzas. The Black & Decker TO1303SB is one such cheap toaster oven that you can consider. In fact it is the best.

Best Cheap Toaster Oven

When I first got my hands on this toaster oven, the first thing that caught my attention was how small it is. It wasn’t a big deal as I wasn’t going to cook a meal for 4. Being compact also meant that it didn’t hog my precious kitchen space.

The design of the Black & Decker TO1303SB is simple and yet pretty effective. Unless some cheap toaster ovens, the inside of this toaster oven contains two heating elements, one above and one below. The heating elements will both run together or individually, so there’s no need to flip the food in the middle of toasting.

The fact that it’s a small toaster oven also meant that I didn’t have to heat up the toaster oven before cooking anything. This fits only 4 slices of regular toast; as for irregular sized artisan or homemade bread, this fits only two. As small as it is, it actually fits a 9-inch pizza so I’m happy.

Included with the Black & Decker TO1303SB is a grill rack, a bake pan, and a removable crumb tray located at the bottom of the toaster oven. Sadly, as with all small and cheap toaster ovens, there is only one slot for you to position the rack near the bottom of the toaster oven. There’s no way for you to position the food near the top of the oven, so I find that I couldn’t use it to brown cheese toppings on my food quickly.

This toaster oven has three easy-to-use knob dials. A function dial to choose the cooking method of your choice: broil, bake, warm, and toast. The timer and temperature dials are used to set the cooking time and adjust the temperature for cooking. A warning for those with poor eyesight, the print around the dials are small.

I definitely would not recommend the Black & Decker TO1303SB if you are cooking for many people or elaborate meals. For that you may want to consider a larger toaster oven or a convection toaster oven. But this toaster oven is great for those who only want a cheap toaster oven to cook simple and small meals, toast bread and reheat pizzas. Get this toaster oven here.
